Join us for a trip into outer space! Veteran spaceflight docent Bill Andrews shows what it’s really like when astronauts go into space and demonstrates how science makes it possible. We’ll play a guessing game about the distance from the Earth and the Moon, and build a room-size scale model to show how far apart they actually are (most people are amazed!). We’ll see a live demonstration of how rockets work and watch an actual launch while experiencing the roar of a rocket engine. From videos of astronauts on the International Space Station, we’ll see what it’s like to live and work in total weightlessness, including how the astronauts eat, sleep and (of course) go to the bathroom in zero gravity. Finally, we’ll see how spaceships look like fireballs when returning to Earth, and learn why they don't burn up along the way.
