Works by Georgia O’Keeffe, Edward Hopper, Grant Wood, and Chicago-based painters Archibald Motley Jr. and Walter Ellison will be discussed.
What do Grant Wood, Georgia O'Keeffe, and Edward Hopper have in common? They all produced paintings during an extraordinary period of creativity in American art history -- the period between the end of WW1 and the start of WW2. Encompassing the roaring twenties and the Great Depression, this complex period produced a plurality of styles, including American Scene Painting and the Harlem Renaissance. Art historian Jeff Mishur of Art Excursions leads this class. Mishur will discuss works by a variety of artists active between the wars, including Georgia O’Keeffe, Edward Hopper, Grant Wood, and Chicago-based painters Archibald Motley Jr. and Walter Ellison.
