Show, don’t tell; details and sense imagery
Probably the first “rule” taught in a creative writing class, whether fiction, nonfiction, or poetry, is “show, don’t tell.” This means using sense images (smell, taste, touch, sound, and sight) to describe persons, places and things to draw readers into your world.
